Wenn der Postmann klingelt...

.. bin ich normalerweise nicht Zuhause. Aber heute hat es mal geklappt.

When the postman comes normally I am not home. But today I was.

Und so konnte ich mein heiß erwartetes Päckchen von Elingeria in Empfang nehmen.

(Ich habe ja nicht genug angefangene Nähprojekte, nein, nein...)

So I could recieve my parcel from Elingeria directly. (Since I do not have enough unfinished sewing projects...)

Die beiden Stoffe links waren aus dem Resteangebot, je 1,50m hochwertigem Dessousjersey konnte ich nicht widerstehen. Die grün-grauen Karos gefallen mir zwar gut, aber ich fürchte, die Farbe steht mir gar nicht. Na mal sehen, dann habe ich auch mal wieder was für den Tauschtisch. Oder es wird sehr viel Unterwäsche, denn die Microfaserqualität wirkt recht fest. Oder mal ein Probeshirt. Der blaue daneben hat noch ein Ton in Ton Blattmuster und liegt farblich ganz auf meiner Linie. bei 8 EUR für beide zusammen kann ich wirklich nicht meckern.

Rote Spitze und orangener Microfaser werden hingegen ein paar BH-Sets geben, ebenso der schwarze Stoff, der auch ein Ton in Ton Muster hat, das auf dem Bild nicht rauskommt.

The two fabrics on the left were from the special price offer, I choose to get 1,50 m each and the company choose which I got. The checked one on the left looks goo, but is not my colour at all. So I'll have something to swap. Or make bras, the quality is quite firm. Or I'll use it for a muslin. The blue one on the contrary is a great colour for me. It has a leaf pattern which isn't visible on the pic. And I payed only 8 EUR for both, so nothing to complain.

The orange microfibre will become lingerie combined with the red lace. same for the black fabric with the ornamental structure that didn't photograph well either.

Jetzt muß ich nur endlich mein Sommerkleid fertig nähen (damit ich es wegpacken kann) und den Mantel, den ich letztes Jahr angefangen habe. Und das Kleid nach dem Vogue-Schnitt, für das ich vor einem Jahr schon den Stoff gekauft habe....

Und natürlich müssen auch die ganzen Strickprojekte vor Weihnachten noch fertig werden...

So I only have to finish my summer dress (so I can store it away until next summer) and the coat I started one year ago. Plus a Vogue dress I purchased the fabric one year ago...

Not to forget that there are plenty of knitting projects to finish before christmas...

P.S.: Mein Patch kam zwar zu spät, aber da noch ein weiterer zu spät kam, gab es ein Kissen dazu, das die Empfängerin auch erreichte. Wie schön. :)

P.S.: My patch for the quilt was late, but it was not the only one, so those were transformed into a pillow thatarrived with the quilt. I'm happy about that. :)

Doubleblogging

Kürzlich wurde ich mal wieder gefragt, warum mein Blog immer mal anders aussieht. Wie meinen? Tut es doch gar nicht.

Ach so, ja... ich glaube ich habe das nie gesagt... mich gibt es zweimal.

Shortly ago someone asked me why my blog looks different sometimes. Does it? Why? Oh... I guess I never told... this blog exists twice.

Angefangen mit dem Bloggen habe ich nämlich hier auf Burda. Das war soweit auch ganz nett, der Webspace kostenlos, viel Platz, um Bilder abzulegen...

Nur war der Editor nicht sehr komfortabel zu bedienen, es wurde mal zwischendrin die Software geändert und alle alten Beiträge waren im Layout (was mühsam zu erstellen war) verwürfelt und überhaupt gab es irgendwann gar keinen Ansprechpartner bei Problemen mehr. Zudem ging die Seite gerne dann nicht, wenn ich Zeit hatte, was zu schreiben. Wenig befriedigend. (Derzeit scheinen die Blogs wenigstens einmal am Tag down zu sein. :( Deswegen erscheint das Post hier auch einen Tag später als auf der Hobbyschneiderin. Burdablog ging mal wieder nicht.)

I had started blogging on Burda and that was okay. Webspace for free and lots of storage for pics. The editor on the other side never was very comfortable, from time to time they made software changes which somehow destroyed the layout of alder posts and after some time there was one one left to ask in case of problems. Also the server often was down when I would have had time to write a blog. Not very exciting. (At the moment it seems to me that the blog server is down at least once a day. ;( )

Da kam mir das Angebot auf der Hobbyschneiderin die Blogs zu nutzen doch gelegen. Dank Wordpress-Basis lassen sich die Artikel viel ausgefeilter kategorisieren und das einpflegen von Bildern oder Links geht auch viel einfacher.

Also habe ich meine alten Artikel in mein Hobbyschneiderin Blog kopiert und weitergeschrieben.

Aber irgendwie bin ich ja sentimental, also habe ich dieses Blog weitergeführt, ist es doch irgendwie meine erste Blogheimat.

So when I was offered to blog on the Hobbyschneiderin I tried this. And liked it. The blogs are wordpress blogs, its easier to bring pics or links in a post and I can put one post into several categories which often helps. So I copied all older posts into my Hobbyschneiderin Blog and went on.

Only I am slightly sentimental and Burda had offered me a room for my first blog, so I just kept this blog and I am updating both of them since.

Also gibt es mich zweimal. Beide Blogs haben den gleichen Namen und es steht auch das gleiche drin. Nur hier im Hobbyschneiderin-Blog sind die Kategorien feiner und man kann einen Artikel auch mehreren Kategorien zuordnen. Und die Bilder vergrößern sich, wenn man draufklickt.

Aber inhaltlich... sind beide gleich. Egal welches man liest. ;)

So there are two "nowaks nähkästchen", the posts are the same. Only there is a small advantage in this blog that the categories are better. also you can klick on pics and make them bigger.

But essentially... you always get the same, no matter which you read. ;)

A paw is a paw is a paw... but do all paws belong to Jack Wolfskin?

... aber gehören die deswegen alle Jack Wolfskin?

Ich bin ja nicht dafür bekannt, daß ich Verstöße gegen Urheber- oder Markenrechte gut finde.

Im Gegenteil bin ich der Meinung, daß eine Marke die Geld in Image und Werbung investiert auch jedes Recht hat, die Erträge ihres teuer bezahlten guten Rufes auch selber einzubringen.

Und ich kann diese "meins ist ja blau, deswegen sieht es doch gar nicht mehr aus wie das Original" Kopien nicht ausstehen.

I don't like copyright infringements. On the contrary I think that a company who pays money for advertisment and building a good brand name has every right to earn the money with their products and with their brand name.

And I can't stand those "but mine is blue so it is not identical with the original brand logo, isn't it?" fakes. Neither those who do the fakes.

Als ich dann auf der Hobbyschneiderin von dieser Abmahnaktion las dachte ich mir erst mal "Recht geschieht es ihnen, jeder weiß ja wie so eine Jack Wolfskin Tatze aussieht, so was fälscht man nicht."

Bis ich auf einen Link mit einem Beispiel für abgemahnte Motive stieß. Daraufhin war ich erst mal irritiert, so hatte ich die Tatze des Outdoor Ausstatters doch nicht in Erinnerung. Wie sah die doch gleich noch mal aus? Ah ja, so sieht die aus. Ähnlichkeit konnte ich da keine mehr erkennen zu den kritisierten Werken. Daß ich ein süßes Katzenpfötchen ohne Krallen irgendwie mit der Wolfskralle verwechseln sollte... so kurzsichtig bin dann nicht mal ich.

So when I read first on the Hobbyschneiderin of expensive letters from lawyers I just thought "Well done. Everyone knows what the Jack Wolfskin brand logo looks like and if you use a wolf paw that looks the same don't expect any mercy from my side."

Until I found a link with an example for a motive on a fabric that had been reason for the lawyers to sue people. I was irritated, did the Jack Wolfskin paw look so different from my memory? That's what it looks like. I couldn't detect any similarities besides that a paw consists of a pad and toes. Bus cute cat paws to me had nothing I could accidentially or on purpose confuse with the logo of the outdoor-outfitter.

Vielleicht sollten die Anwälte des Unternehmens mal wieder ihren Karl May zur Hand nehmen oder ein Tierbestimmungsbuch. Dann lernen sie, daß unterschiedliche Tiere sehr unterschiedliche Abdrücke hinterlassen. :P

Und ich stricke besser mal Socken für Nachbars Katze. Nicht daß die mal mit schmutzigen Pfoten über meinen Fußabstreifer läuft und abmahnfähige Abdrücke hinterlässt...

Maybe the lawyers should read some book about animals, to learn that different anmals leave different pawprints. :P

And I better start knitting socks for my neighbours cat. To prevent her to run over our doormat with dirty paws and leaving prints that could cost us a fortune...

Jam for free!

Und noch ein paar Stoffrestchen sind aus meiner Kiste auf Marmeladegläser gewandert.

Und auch diesmal hat sie uns nichts gekostet, mein Herzblatt hat nämlich entdeckt, daß auf einem Stück Brachland bei uns im Viertel die Brombeeren reif sind und hat eine große Plastikdose voll gesammeln. Und gleich Marmelade gekocht... vier Gläser für nix, ist doch eine schöne Ausbeute. ;)

(Mit offenen Augen durch die Gegend zu gehen zahlt sich doch immer wieder aus.)

And again the jam is for free. My sweetheart had spied on some waste land in our neighbourhood ripe blackberries. He wen thre with a plastic container and transformed it into jam the same day. So four jars of jam for nothing... not bad, I think. ;)

Die Wahrheit über Urlaub...

...ist daß einen nach dem Auspacken der Koffer dann so was erwartet...

The truth about holiday is, that after unpacking your luggage this is waiting for you...

Die letzten und auch die nächsten Tage werde ich also kreativ zwischen der Waschmaschine und dem Bügelbrett verbringen. Und die Challenge für Stolberg in den Endzügen organisieren, das sind ja auch nur noch zwei Wochen.

Mit meinem eigenen Werk dafür habe ich noch nicht mal angefangen...

So tha last days I've spent and some more days I will be spending very creatively between washing maschine and ironing. Plus I have to do the last organisational steps for the Challenge in Stolberg. And the event will be in less than two weeks.

And I haven't even started with my own "opus" for that occasion...

Das wird zumindest spannend, denn bis dahin stehen neben dem üblichen auch noch zwei Fortbildungen auf dem Programm, eine davon am Wochenende.

So finishing something will be the major challenge, because besides the normal work I also have to attend to workshops, one on the weekend.

Atchoo-Soup

Bei dem derzeitigen Wetter mußte das ja passieren, Regen, Kälte, dazwischen einzelne warme Tage und ein heftiges Schlafdefizit... ich habe das Wochenende mit einem Schnupfen verbracht. Deswegen gab es bei uns meine spezielle Erkältungssuppe und statt Nähen oder Häkeln gibt es diesmal ein Rezept für Hühnersuppe. ;)

It was to be expected... ugly weather with rain and cold, in between some humid sweating hot days and me not catching enough sleep... I spent the weekend with a cold. So we had my special healing soup and so you'll get a recipe for hen soup instead of sewing or crocheting news. ;)

Hühnersuppe gilt ja traditionell als Heilmittel bei Erklältung und enthält wohl tatsächlich ein paar ätherische Öle, die die Nase frei machen und dem Körper gut tun. Das funktioniert aber nur mit einem echten Huhn, Päckchensuppe hilft da nicht. Und mein Rezept ergänzt die Wirkung des Huhns noch mit einigen Kräutern und Gewürzen. (Und falls jemand hier ist, der noch nie gekocht hat: Bei der Suppe kann man nichts falsch machen, selbst mein Mann kann die inzwischen.)

Chicken soup is traditionally supposed to be good against a cold and I've read some time ago that chicken contains something like essential oils that unblock the noose and help the body. This only works with a real chicken, soup from cans or soup powder doesn't work. My recipe adds some herbs and spice to enhance the effect of the chicken. (Dom't be afraid of cooking a soup, you cannot make anything wrong. Even my sweetheart can do this soup.)

Zunächst braucht man die normalen Zutaten: 1 Suppenhuhn (1,2 kg - 1,5 kg darf es gerne haben. Ein mageres Grillhähnchen funktioniert nicht.), 1-2 Zwiebeln, 1-2 Stangen Lauch, 3-4 Karotten, 1/4 Sellerieknolle, Petersilie (für unerfahren Köche: Gemüse ist unterschiedlich groß, deswegen kann man vorher nicht genau sagen wie viel. Außerdem gibt es kein "richtig" oder "falsch", die Mengen kann man nach Geschmack variieren. Und wer einfach "Suppengrün" kauft bekommt schon eine fertige Gemüsemischung.)

Dann kommen meine "Spezialzutaten": 1 getrockene Chili-Schote, 2 Nelken, ein Stück Ingwer, Pfefferkörner, Coriandersamen, Pimentkörner, Thymian, Salbei, Majoran und Beifuß. Von getrockneten Kräutern nimmt man je nach Geschmack und alter der Kräuter 1-2 TL, von frischen 1-2 Stengel, von Thymian eine Hand voll.

First you need the normal ingredients, 1 soup hen (1,2 kg - 1,5 kg is a good size, bigger is no problem, a small chicken you would use for roasting or BBQ doesn't work), 1-2 onions, 1-2 leek, 3-4 carrots, 1/4 celeriac, parsley. (Note to the unexperienced cook: vegetables come in different sizes, so if you have smaller ones take one more, have you bigger ones take a little less. But whatever you do, there is no "right" or "wrong", everything is fine.)

My special ingrediens are: 1 dried chili pepper, 2 cloves, a piece of ginger, black pepper, coriander seeds, allspice, thyme, sage, marjoram, mugwort. For dried herbs I take 1 - 2 tbl. spoons, fresh ones 1-2 stems, thyme a good hand full.

Als nächstest wird das Gemüse gewaschen, die Zwiebel halbiert, Karotten in etwa 3cm lange Stücke geschnitten, Ingwer geschält und in 1cm dicke Scheiben geschnitten sowie von der Sellerienolle die äußere Schicht geschält und der Rest in grobe Stücke geschnitten.

Anschließen nimmt man einen großen Topf, gibt 1TL Salz rein, wirft die Zutaten inlusive des Suppenhuhns rein und köchelt das ganze 2h lang. (Gemüse und Gewürze gebe ich ins kalte Wasser, beim Huhn hat man die Wahl. Gibt man es ins kalte Wasser, wird das Fleisch sehr trocken, dafür gibt das Huhn mehr Geschmack and die Suppe ab. Gibt man das Huhn ins kochende Wasser, schmeckt die Suppe etwas weniger nach Huhn, dafür behält das Hühnerfleisch mehr von seinen Geschmack.)

Vegetables were cleaned and then cut in not to small pieces (onions in halves, carrots in 3-4cm long pieces, ginger 1cm thick slices, celeriac about the same sice as the carrot pieces).

After that you need a big pot with water, add 1 tbl.spoon salt, all the herbs, spices and vegetables and the chicken. Let cook for 2 hours on low temperature. (You can either put the chicken in cold water or you can add it into the already boiling water. If you put it in cold water the chicken will loose more taste and the chicken meat will be drier, but the chicken taste in the soup will be more intensive. If you put the chicken in the boiling water it will keep more of it's taste in it's own meat and less of it will be in the soup. You can do both, depending on what you prefere.)

Nach der Kochzeit nimmt man das Huhn heraus und läßt es etwas abkühlen. Sobald man es anfassen kann kratzt man alles an Fleisch runter, was man runter bekommt und schneidet es in kleine Stücke. Die Suppe wird durch ein Sieb gegossen, das Gemüse weggeworfen. (Das hat keinen Geschmack mehr.) Wenn man mag kann man die Brühe dann ganz oder teilweise entfetten.

Die Brühe kommt wieder in den Topf, Suppenfleisch rein, ein paar Suppennudeln nach Geschmack dazu (wenn man mag auch TK-Erbsen und/oder anderes klein geschnittenes Gemüse), kochen lassen bis die Nudeln gar sind, in Teller geben, noch mit Salz abschmecken, frischen Schnittlauch drüber (wenn vorhanden), essen. Macht die Nase frei...

(Deswegen konnte ich heute auch schon wieder nähen... ;) )

After the cooking time you remove the hen, let it cool enough to be able to touch it and then scratch all of the meat from the bones and cut it into small pieces. Pour the soup through a strainer and discard the vegetables. (They have left all their taste in the broth.) If you want you can remove all or a part ot the fat from the soup.

Then put soup and meat back into a pot, bring to boil, add soup noodles and fine carrot slices and/or fresh or frozen peas to taste and let cook until the noodles are cooked. Pour the soup in soup plates, add salt to taste and chives (if you have), eat. (And enjoy the unblocked noose...)

(And because the soup worked, today I was able to do some sewing again...)

*heul* Einmal willste was Nähen und mitten beim Sockestopfen sagt sie "kracks" und es gibt nur noch Fadensalat.:(

Putzen, frische Nadel und alle sonstigen Tricks helfen nichts, sobald der Oberfaden ins Spiel kommt, gibt es häßliche Geräusche im Greifer, Fadensalat und keine Stiche. *heul*

Ich brauche den Nähmaschinennotarzt!

Finally I wanted to do some sewing and while I was darning some socks my machine said "crac" and I have only a lot of thread, not stitches.

Cleaning, fresh needle and all other things didn't help. As soon as I start using a threaded needle I only have ugly sounds, loose threads and no stitches.

Where is the ER for sewing machines?!

Salat ohne Schnecken

Slugfree salad

Jedes Jahr der gleiche Ärger, ich pflanze Salat, die Schnecken fressen ihn. Letztes Jahr war es so schlimm, daß die Salatpflänzchen schon eine Nacht nach dem Pflanzen weggefressen waren.

Keine Chance für uns. :(

Every year the same problem: I'm planting salad and the slugs and snails eat it. Last year it was so bad, that any salad I planted was eaten away the next morning.

No way to get salad for us. :(

Aber damit ist jetzt Schluss. Dieses Jahr gedeiht der Salat völlig schneckenfrei.

Das Rezept ist einfach, einen Plastikkorb mit filzartigem Abdeckvlies und Kokosfasermatte auslegen, Erde rein und Salat. Und dann stellt man das ganze auf den Balkon im ersten Stock.

Und das Schnecken-Salatbuffet hat endgültig geschlossen. :)

But those times are over. This year our salad grows 100% snail and slugfree.

The recipe is easy, you take a plastic container (with a lot of holes in it), line it with a felt like protective fleece and cocofiber, put soil in it and plant your salad. For even more security position it on you balcony on the first floor.

And the snail-restaurant is closed down. :)

Schöne Ostern gehabt?

You've had happy easter?

Hier ist ja heute noch Feiertag, deswegen zählen meine verspäteten Osterwünsche sicher auch noch. ;)

In Germany today is still a Easter holidy, so I think my wishings are "valid". ;)

Und in den letzten Tagen war so viel wichtigeres zu tun: Die Wohnung sauber machen, bevor der Besuch kommt, Osterbrot backen, um sechs Uhr morgens in die Osternacht gehen (*gähn*), Osterhase spielen und danach den Kindern beim Suchen zugucken, in den Zoo gehen (fester Programmpunkt bei uns), ein Stündchen Schlaf nachholen, das Osterlamm in den Ofen schieben...

There were so many more important things to do like cleaning up our place before the guests arrived, baking easter bread, going to church at 6 a.m. (*yawn*), hiding easter eggs and watching the kids while they are searching them, going to the zoo (kids love doing always the same things for holidays), catching up at least one hour of sleep, roasting the lamb,...

Mit anderen Worten: Wir hatten ein wunderbares Osterfest und ich wünsche euch, daß eueres ebenso schön war!

"Handarbeiten" gab es in den letzten Tagen nur in der Küche (das Baby-Alpaca im Zoo zählt nicht), aber morgen geht es hoffentlich wieder weiter.

In other words: We had a wonderfull Easter and I wish you the same!

"Crafty" stuff was restricted to the kitchen the last days (the tiny baby alpaca we saw in the zoo doesn't count) but I hope to come back to sewing tomorrow.

Also eigentlich ist die h&h in Köln eine der wichtigsten Fachmessen für alles rund um Handarbeit und kreative Hobbies. Geschäftsinhaber auf der Suche nach neuen Stoffe, Kurzwaren oder Strickgarnen, Designer und Autoren von Kreativbüchern aller Art und einige Pressevertreter treffen Hersteller und Großhändler, Verlage für Handarbeitsbücher und Zeitschriften, Nähmaschinenhersteller,...

Ich bin ehrlicherweise nichts davon. (Gut, ich berichte über Produkte, die mir gefallen, aber das reicht noch nicht ganz um "Presse" zu sein und ich entwerfe das eine oder andere für mich, aber "Designer" bin ich deswegen noch lange nicht. Und verkaufen tu ich auch nix.) Trotzdem hat diese Messe einen großen Reiz, denn es gibt dort natürlich Trends und Neuheiten zu sehen, auf die ich neugierig bin. Auch wenn ich selber dort nichts kaufen kann, denn wie gesagt, die Messe ist für Profis und die verkaufen größere Mengen, die sie dann in den jeweiligen Laden liefern.

Doch frau hat Freunde und Bärbel als Autorin (ihr neues Buch Gehäkelte Trend Socken kommt bald in den Handel) und Michael (dem ich das Buch Männermaschen zu verdanken habe) waren selbstverständlich dort und haben mich am Samstag mitgenommen.

The h&h is a big trade fair about knitting, sewing and other craft in Cologne and normally it's for professionals (like shop owners, knit designers, authors of craft books,.... ) and press of course. I'm neither of this, but I am extra curious to get peeks on new products... Even though I couldn't buy anything there, because it's for professionals who can make orders there but no retail.

Luckily I do have friends like Bärbel (whose latest book about crocheted socks will hit german bookstores soon) or Michael whose book Männermaschen I already own and I could accompany them on Saturday.

Da ich also nur zum Vergüngen da war, hatte ich einfach viel Spaß. (Und ein paar andere auch, obwohl die zum Arbeiten da waren. Aber dazu später.)

So for me it was not a work day, but I had a lot of fun. (And some others, too, even though they were there for work. But I'll be talking about this later.)

Also, was habe ich alles gesehen... Prym hat ein paar altbewährte Geräte in die Hand genommen und sie ergonomischer gestaltet. Die Form faßt sich wirklich gut an, aber ich bin kein echter Fan von Soft-Feel Oberflächen. Und auch nicht von lila. (Hier hat Anne sie im Forum vorgestellt.) Was mich wesentlich mehr begeisterte sind die neuen "Nähkästchen", in allen Größen, von Schmuckkästchen bis zum Werkzeugkoffer. Letzterer läuft auf Rollen und verbreitet den Flair eines Cabin Bags, fertig zum Abflug. Es ist nämlich alles cool und dezent aus schwarzem Leder(imitat?). Da juckt es mich schon leicht in den Fingern. Was auf alle Fälle in meiner Nähkiste landen wird sind der neue Markierstift, mit ganz feinen Minen. (Ich habe mal unauffällig auf dem Jerseyfutter meiner Strickjacke getestet: auch auf dieser weichen Unterlage kann man einen Strich sehen.) Und natürlich der neue "Klebstift", ein auswaschbarer flüssiger Kleber in Stiftform. Den hätte ich gerade heute gut brauchen können, um einen schmalen und gebogenen Jerseysaum zu befestigen. Da ist Wonder Tape nämlich nicht so gut geeignet. Leider sind die Sachen noch nicht auf der Webseite zu sehen, aber sie werden im Verlauf des Jahres in den Läden landen... So lange muß ich warten...

So, what did I see? Prym took some old tools and made more ergonomic handles. They really fit good in my hands, but I don't like the softfeel surface too much and purple is not my favorite colour. (Anne showed them in the forum.) But what I liked way more are the new sewing "baskets", cool black leather boxes in different sizes from tiny jewel box size to big toolbox size. The latter comes on wheels as a trolley and gives you the feeling of a bussiness (wo)man on the way to catch an important plane... Made me instantly wanting it, at least a bit. (I do not really need it, so probably I won't buy it). But two new items will jump into my sewing basket: a very fine marking pencil with recharchable "lead" (no lead of course), I tried it on the jersy lining of my soft knit jacket and it even left a trace there, so it's good for marking soft fabric, too. The other think I could have used today for a curved hem in a sweater knit... it's a liquid washable glue in a pen. Great and easy to handle.

Dann haben wir natürlich jede Menge Wolle und Strickgarn gesehen. Dieses Jahr war überhaupt viel Wolle, für mein Gefühl. Und die dazugehörigen Nadeln. Die Stricknadeln von Knit Pro kenne ich ja schon, aber ich konnte am Messestand auch mal die Häkelnadeln probieren. Da gibt es nämlich welche, die für Gelegenheitshäkler wie mich idal sind: Häkelnadeln mit Haken an beiden Enden. In verschiedenen Stärken! Und man kann damit häkeln, man verheddert sich tatsächlich nicht. Wenn ich wieder mal eine Häkelnadel brauche.. das werden die nächsten.

This year there was a lot of wool and knitting yarn. And we had very close looks at it. And of course needles. The knitting needles of Knit Pro are already my favourites but I had the possibility to try the crochet hooks also. And there they have one kind that is so perfect for occasional crocheters like me: double sided crochet hooks. Two different sizes in one. And I tried it, you can crochet without the second hook beeing in the way. Next time I need a crochet hook... that will be mine.

Ein bißchen habe ich auch gekauft... Webstricknadeln bei addi. Die gab es zum Sofortkauf. Mal sehen, ob das so funktioniert, wie beschrieben. Die meisten anderen Sachen gab es aber geschenkt, wie das so ist, wenn du mit wichtigen Leuten rumhängst, dann bekommst du auch so schöne Täschchen, von Coats und auch von Burda. (Und Takumi-Nadeln von Clover, die haben wir am gleichen Tag noch benutzt, um was auszuprobieren. Stricken sich auch sehr schön. Die Spitzen sind für mein Gefühl runder als die bei den Bambusnadeln von Prym.) Na gut, das von Burda haben wir glaube ich vor allem für unsere Begeisterung bekommen. *g*

Okay, I also did buy a bit. "Weave-knit" needles from addi. I haven't tried that, but it looks interesting. Most of the other things were gifts. When you hang around with the right people you get cute bags, like Coats or Burda. (And Takumi-Knitting needles from Clover. I used them the same day to try something, they have a smooth feel and knit well. I think they are a bit less pointy than the bamboo needles of Prym.) Okay, the bag from burda we got for our excitement, I think...

Ja Bärbel, ich weiß noch mit wem wir gesprochen haben, das war Frau Rieker. Und... sie hat uns zugehört. Mit Interesse. Ich mag Firmen, die ihren Kunden zuhören. (Und ich mag das neue Heft, Details wie üblich in einem eigenen Eintrag.)

At Burda they did indeed listen to us! I like it, when companies listen to their customers. (And I like the new issue, but that will be a post of it's own.)

Ja und dann... dann habe ich doch glatt jemanden getroffen, den ich kannte. Und siehe das obige Bild, war die Freude durchaus beidseitig. Vor einigen Jahren war nämlich der nette Herr Seitz von Alterfil auf dem Hobbyschneidein-Kongress in Aachen und ließ sich damals von mir und Bärbel erklären, was das ganze überhaupt soll. Von Fränkin zu Franke haben wir uns ja sowieso gut verstanden und ein Jahr später stellte Alterfil den Hauptpreis für unsere Paris-Aachen-Challenge: Ein Wochenende in Oederan mit exklusiver Betriebsbesichtigung. (Ja, Alterfil Nähfäden werden tatsächlich noch in Deutschland gefärbt und gesponnen.)

Das Produkt von Alterfil hatte mich ja schon länger überzeugt. der Nähfaden Alterfil S ist schon lange mein Lieblingsfaden. Er ist glatt, läuft hervorragend mit gleichmäßiger Spannung in die Maschine und produziert wenig Fusseln. (Nein, ich werde nicht dafür bezahlt, der Faden ist einfach gut.)

Und so hat mich der Ständer mit den neuen Produkten natürlich magisch an. Einmal stellt Alterfil jetzt in Europa Robison-Anton Stickgarn her. Ich kenne das noch nicht, aber ich bin natürlich neugierig, es auszuprobieren, sobald es auf dem Markt ist. Was mir aus der Beschreibung schon gut gefällt: Die Farben sind nach Pantone standardisiert. Das heißt, man kann tatsächlich auch bei Bestellungen via den Farbton genau bestimmen und etwa mit Stoffen vergleichen, die man Zuhause hat. (Na gut, wenn man eine Pantone Farbkarte hat... wohl eher für Profis interessant.)

Aber was mich noch mehr anzog... es gibt ein neues Ziergarn, Dipolin. Einmal für Nähmaschinen und einmal für Overlocks. Das ist recht dick... Und da dachten Bärbel und ich dann recht schnell an Strick- und Häkelnadeln. (So viel zum Thema: Experimente der nächsten Zeit... ;) )

And then... I did meet someone I knew. And the pic above shows that it was not only me who was happy. Some years ago Mr Seitz from Alterfil visited the Congress of the Hobbyschneiderin in Aachen and it wasBärbel and I who explained him what all that was about. And of course we got along naturally well, coming both from Franconia (the northern part of Bavaria) ;). So it was easy to convince him to contribute a price four our "Paris-Aachen-Challenge" one year later: The winner went to Oederan for a weekend and visited the factory there. (Yes, they really produce in Germany, rare thing, nowadays.)

Okay, I do not get paid to say this, but I had already been convinced by the quality of their product, Alterfil S is my favourite sewing thread, it has a very smmoth surface, runs very regular through the machine and produces only few lint.

So, of course, when I spied a display with new products I was more than interessted. First, they now make also embroidery thread. They will be producing Robison-Anton embroidery thread for and in Europe. I don't know the brand, but I'm eager to try it. What already sounds interesting is, that the colours a standardized Pantone colours. So if you have to order by mail you could just buy a Pantone colour chart and would know the colour. (Okay, if you do not embroider a lot a pantone chart wiould be to expensive, but in theory would be great if all would use standardized colours.)

But another new product attrated me even more: a decorative/topstitching thread, Dipolin, thet will exist in two different forms, one optimized for sergersn, the other for normal sewing machines. It is relatively thick, so what came to Bärbel's and my mind was... knitting needles and crochet hooks. (So much about what to expect in our blogs this year...)

Weil sich weder Herr Seitz noch sein Kollege Amrhein (rechts auf dem Bild oben) nicht recht was vorstellen konnten, haben sie mir mal eine Rolle Alterfil S35 in die Hand gedrückt (der ist auch relativ dick) und ich habe noch Samstag Abend mein erstes Experiment gestartet.

Ja, auch aus Nähgarn kann man Armbänder machen.

As neither Mr Seitz nor his collegue Mr. Amrhein (right on the pic above) couldn't really imagine what we were talking about, they just gave me a spool Alterfil S35 and I started a first experiemt the same night.

So sewing thread can make a bracelet.

Sonntag war ich dann Dank Silvia von Scherzkeks-Stoffe (die im übrigen auch Alterfil S verkauft...) noch mal auf der Messe und konnte das Armbändchen den beiden staunenden Herren vorzeigen...

Thanks to Silvia from Scherzkeks-Stoffe (who are b.t.w. also selling Allterfil S sewing thread...) I went to the trade fair a second time and could show the quick improvised bracelet to the two surprised guys...

Because I have something no one else has! The first one and only "Hobbyschneiderin-Mug" from the Hobbyschneiderin, largest creative community in Europe.

The right mug for sewing break, coffee parties with crafty sisters (and brothers), tea break at work or just for a feel good breakfast.

And the coolest thing?

At the moment in Germany, in Europe... even worldwide I am the very only person who owns that mug! *gg*
