Three, two, one!

Irgendwo waren ja alle Challenge-Teilnehmer Gewinner, den sie dürfen ihr eigenen Werke behalten. Und zudem gab es noch eine Stolberg Tasse sowie einen Kugelschreiber von Organ und ein kleines Rollmaß von Bebylock/Juki. Für die vier vierten Plätze gabe es außerdem noch das praktische Handmaß von Alterfil (mit dem Stichzähler).

Auf den dritten Platz gewählt wurde "Dina's Rüschenkleid".

Somehow all participants of the Challenge were winners, because everyone took back his entry and can use it the next years. On top they got a special edition "Stolberg mug", a small rolling tape measure from Babylock/Juki and a pen from Organ Needles.

We hat for times a forth place and those got a gauge from Alterfil on top (I like mine for the stitch counter).

The third place then was for "Dina's Rüschenkleid" (Dina's ruffled dress).

Die schöne Schleife die ich ihr anstecken darf verdanken wir übrigens Annette61be, die meine Idee mehr als bereitwillig aufgegriffen und sich was passendes ausgedacht hat.

Irgendwie überraschend fad ich, wie perfekt die Preise zu den Gewinnerinnen paßten. dina*** als Patchwork Künstlerin war mit der Fadenschere und vor allem dem Robison Anton Stickgarn von ALTERFIL sehr glücklich.

I was kind of surprise how well the prices fitted the winners. dina*** as patch artists was very happy about the Robison Anton embroidery thread from ALTERFIL.

(Daß es hier auch Bilder zu sehen gibt verdankt ihr übrigens Gerda-Marie und Frau mhs, die fleißig geknipst und mir dann die Bilder geschickt haben. Ich konnte ja keine machen...)

Genauso hat sich Pim gefreut. Nicht nur über ihre Schleife (denn so was bekommt sonst ihre Tochter beim Reiten), sondern auch über das Sortiment Nähmaschinennadeln von ORGAN NEEDLES.

Ihre reflektierende "Dämmerungsweste" fürs Radfahren hatte vermutlich den höchstem Nutzwert von allen Einreichungen, aber das sind wir von der praktischen Pim ja auch so gewohnt. ;)

2nd place was for the super useful "Dämmerungsweste" (vest for twilight) of Pim, whom we know for practical ideas.

And she also was super happy. Not only about her ribbon (normaly only her daughter gets such things for riding), also the machine needles from ORGAN NEEDLES made her smile.

Of course she had to peek in the small box: Small box, but great price!

Natürlich mußte sie gleich mal reingucken, so ein großartiger Preis in so einer kleinen Schachtel!

(Was ich übrigens vergessen habe zu photographieren waren die Siegermodelle. Und auch die anderen. Aber zum Glück sind die Teilnehmer schon dabei, ihre Bilder und Beschreibungen ins Hobbyschneiderin-Forum und in der Galerie einzustellen.)

Am schönsten hat sich wohl wirklich unsere Gewinnerin gefreut!

(I have to admit that I forgot to take pictures from the winning models or from any other Challenge entry. But luckily the participants have already started to put up pictures and descriptions to the Hobbyschneiderin-Forum and to the gallery.)

Isn't it wonderfull to see, how happy our winner was?

Der Weg aus Berlin nach Stolberg hat sich also hier wirklich gelohnt!

So it was worth the journey from Berlin to Stolberg!

Glücklich ist sie auf alle Fälle über das große Nähgarnsortiment von ALTERFIL. (Wißt ihr eigentlich was unfair ist? Ich darf die Garnbox immer verschenken, aber nie behalten... ;-) Aber ich mache ja gerne andere Menschen glücklich.)

Vom Publikum auf den ersten Platz gewählt wurde ihre Beutel-Faltentasche, die man auf dem Bild sogar links erkennt. lillybeth war nämlich fleißig und hatte mehrere Werke im Gepäck.

The object that was favoured by most people was her "Beutel-Faltentasche" (pouch-pleats-bag) you can see in the background left of her. She had been very hard working and had brought several pieces to Stolberg.)

So she can happily take home a sortiment of sewing thread from ALTERFIL. You know what is unfair? I always give that away, but never get one for myself. ;-) But it's also great to make other people happy.)

News from the Sewing Party in Stolberg

Ich war wirklich überwältigt von den Beiträgen. Einmal die schiere Menge (Natascha und ich haben wohl zwei Stunden aufgehängt und geklebt.), aber auch die Qualität und der Ideenreichtum der Werke waren (oder sind noch) grandios.

Ich habe viele von meinen alten Sachen entdeckt und bei keinem davon bedauert, daß ich sie abgegeben habe. Aus allen wurde etwas sehr spannendes und schönes neues.

It was overwhelming, there were so many different entries for the Challenge (it took Natascha and me about two hours to arrange everything) and also the quality was high. so many interesting ideas!

I spied a lot of my old things that were in the parcel and I do not regret a single one! Each one was transformed into something new, wonderful things.

So ist es auch nicht überraschend, daß auch die Besucher (auch Jury genannt, denn sie wählen die Sieger) mit viel Interesse vor den Stellwänden standen.

Und häufig auch sehr überrascht waren, was da doch aus Altkleidern entstanden ist.

No surprise that the visitors (aka jury, because their voting will tell who's the winner) examined with interest and expertise.

And often were very surprised what had been done with the old clothes.

(Wer die Sachen im Original noch mal sehen will: Heute ab 10.00 Uhr geht es weiter im Zinkhütter Hof in Stolberg.)

Natürlich gab es das übliche Programm, aus diversen Kursen, gegenseitigem Zeigen, verschiedenen Arbeitsinseln und natürlich gemütlichem Stricken und Häkeln.

Wobei einige nicht genug davon bekamen und auch nach dem Abendessen die Nadeln wieder hervorholten.

Of course we also had workshops, did teach things to each other, tried new techniques or just sat down for knitting or crocheting.

Some couldn't get enough of that so they picked up their needles again after dinner...

Wohingegen andere nach dem Essen wichtige Fachgespräche bis in den frühen Morgen führten.

While others were having important consultations about sewing problems until early this morning.

Na gut, ich gebe es zu... wir hatten einfach nur Spaß.:)

Und morgen, äh heute, noch einmal!

Okay, to tell the truth: We were just having fun.

And tomorrow... well today we'll be doing it again!

Winner!

Den Kampf gegen die Zeit habe ich gewonnen, ich bin nämlich fertig. Morgen noch photographieren und ausdrucken. Und die Dokumentation dazu schreiben.

(Ich hatte heute eine zu ungefähr 99 Prozent nutzlose Fortbildung, bei knapp eineinhalb Stunden Anfahrt. Die Zeit hätte ich anders besser genutzt. Aber immerhin waren wir etwas zeitiger fertig als geplant und ich hatte so noch Zeit, heute die Handstichteil zu machen.)

Und mich dann natürlich um die Vorbereitungen für die anderen Challengeteilnehmer kümmern: Stimmzettel entwerfen, Nummernschildchen, eine Liste mit den Einreichungen machen.... und all das, was mir im Moment nicht mehr einfällt, was aber auch morgen noch gemacht werden muß.

I'm a winner in my fight against time! I have finished my creation. Tomorrow I'll be taking pictures, printing them and writing the documentation about it.

(Today I went to a 99 percent useless training/workshop, 1,5 hours by train. I could have used my time way better. But we were finished a bit sooner than expected, so I had the time at home to do the handstitching part. At least.)

The other thing for tomorrow is making the preparation for all the other Challenge participants. Like making the voting papers, printing well readable number papers, making a List of who will show what... and all the other things I'm not able to remember right now.

Something is going on...

Doch, es tut sich was, ich habe mit meinem Challengewerk angefangen. Oder sogar schon eine Menge gemacht.

Recycling-Challenge: About time?

In weniger als einer Woche, nämlich nächsten Samstag ab 10.00 Uhr steigt in Stolberg das 2. Museumsnähen (aka Nähparty) und damit ist auch die Challenge fällig.

Und ich habe noch nicht mal angefangen.

It's less than one week that the 2nd Museumsnähen (aka sewing party) will start in Stolberg. Saturday 10am.

And I haven't even started.

Zumindest nicht mit meinem Werk, ich habe natürlich mir Gedanken gemacht über die Abstimmung, die Preise eingesammelt, Leute angemailt, Päckchenübergaben vereinbart... aber für mein Werk blieb noch keine Zeit.

Immerhin habe ich die Zutaten schon mal zusammengesucht: Das rechte Kleid aus Dupionseide ist aus dem Päckchen. Die Farbe hat mich gleich angesprochen. Das linke Seidenkleid ist aus meinem Schrank und paßt auch schon lange nicht mehr. Dazu habe ich noch Baumwollstickgarn in drei Blautönen sowie Volumenvlies.

Sowie einen ungefähren Plan. Gut, morgen ist Sonntag... ich bin gespannt, ob ich fertig werde.

At least not started with my entry. I organized quite a lot, thinking about the voting, asking companies for prices, mailing people about where to send their entries... but no time for my stuff.

At least I gathered the things I need: the right silk dress is from the challenge packet. the left dress is silk also, not my size any more, but with a lot of beautiful fabric. What I'll also need is cotton embroidery thread in three shades of blue and some batting.

And I have something like a plan. Okay, tomorrow is sunday... I'm curious whether I'll finish in time.

Das ist doch mal ein Nähschrank, zusammengesetzt aus zwei Billy-Regalen von IKEA hat er viel Platz und kann auf Rollen geschoben werden.

Gefunden habe ich ihn bei Ikea-Hacker, gemacht hat es "Queen Lila" aus Griechenland: Queen Lila: royalty crafts blog. (Und ich gehe jetzt das Blog mal durchgucken, ob die vielleicht noch mehr interessantes macht...)

That's an interesting storage for the sewing machine. Made of two Billy shelves from IKEA, it has a lot of storing space and can be moved on wheels.

I stumbled over it on Ikea-Hacker, "Queen Lila" from Greece made it: Queen Lila: royalty crafts blog. (And I'm going to check out her blog, there might be more interesting stuff...)

Dress... finished?

Katharina fragte in einem Kommentar, ob mein rotes Kleid fertig ist. Ich nehme sehr an, es handelt sich um das Bussiness goes Africa Kleid, auch wenn das in Wirklichkeit braun ist. (Als ich den Stoff kaufte war die Farbe noch "rehbraun", diesen Herbst heißt sie wohl "Zimt") In der Tat, ich schulde noch ein Photo.

Also technisch gesehen ist es fertig, das Futter ist drin, das Kleid ist gesäumt, alles dran.

Katharina asked in a comment some time ago whether I had finished my red dress. As I am only working on a brown one (which looks a bit reddish on the pics) I have to admit that I haven't shown a pic yet.

Well, technically it's finished. Lining is attached, hem is sewn, everything done.

Ich weiß nur noch nicht, ob es so schon fertig ist. Der Batikstoff kommt beim Laufen am Saum gut zur Geltung, aber oben... scheint mir noc was zu fehlen. Es ist unbalanciert und auch... naja, langweilig.

Gut, zur Arbeit kann ich es ohne Probleme anziehen, da kommt es nicht auf Schönheit an, aber wenn jemand noch eine Idee hat...? Ich dachte schon an eine lange, auffällige Kette, aber da habe ich noch nichts passendes gesehen.

Only I'm not sure whether it's really finished. The african batik fabric shows nicely on the bottom of the dress when I'm walking, but on the upper part... something seems to be missing. It's not well balanced and... well, boring.

No problem wearing it to work, beauty is not the main issue there. But if someone has an idea....? I've thought about a long and somewhat outstanding necklace or something like that, but I couldn't find anything matching so far.

With the jacket (which I already did show here) it looks better, though not on the pic. I think this is because it adds structure to the upper part of my body and also the button is quite a statement. (The structure of the fabric does not photograph well.)

So maybe I am just not used to see myself on so much brown? I haven't decided yet, what to do.

Mit der Jacke (die ich hier schon gezeigt hatte) sieht es etwas besser aus, allerdings nicht auf dem Bild. Die Struktur des Jackenstoffes photographiert sich ganz schlecht, aber durch ebendiese Struktur bringt die Jacke wieder etwas Aufmerksamkeit auf den Oberkörper und auch der große Knopf spricht für sich.

Vielleicht ist mir so viel braun für mich auch nur sehr ungewohnt? Mal sehen, was ich tun werden, entschieden habe ich mich noch nicht.

Selfexplaining needlebook

Da mein Bruderherz sich ja jetzt endlich eine eigene Nähmaschine angeschafft hat, braucht er natürlich auch Zubehör. Und das ist für mich eine gute Gelegenheit, Reste zu verwerten.

Wie sieht ein Nadelbuch für einen Mann aus?

Kein Tildagetüddel natürlich, es geht auch anders.

Since my brother finally decided to buy his own sewing machine I decided he needs some notions. A good possibility to reduce my scraps.

So how would a needle book for a man look?

No pink frills, of course, you can do something different.

Aber wie immer kommt es ja eigentlich auf die inneren Werte an. (Ein Klick aufs Bild bringt wie immer die größere Version.)

Da mein Bruder sicher kein Vielnäher werden wird (er hat schon genug Hobbies) fand ich es wichtig, daß er ohne viel Nachdenken die richtigen Nadeln findet. Also gibt es ein mehrteiliges Innenleben.

Das Futter hat Taschen für Nadelpäckchen, zwei kleine vorne, eine große (für 10er Packs) hinten. Hier ist aktuell ein Päckchen Jeansnadeln eingesteckt.

Die erste Seite ist aus einem Elastik-Interlock (mit genug Stand), hier sind Ballpoint und Stretch-Nadeln in zwei Stärken eingesteckt. Also Nadeln die man für Jerseys und Strickstoffe braucht.

Weiter geht es mit einem Webstoff, hier sind die Maschinennadeln für Webstoffe, ganz einfach und logisch. Und auf der zweiten Webstoffseite sind normale Handnadeln (und ein paar Sicherheitsnadeln).

Auf der letzten Seite, wieder Interlock, Handstick- und -nähnadeln mit runder Spitze, was man eben für Jersey braucht.

Ich hoffe, er findet es genauso praktisch wie ich...

But what is more important is what is inside. (Clicking on the pic show you a bigger version.) My brother never will always be a regular sewer so it is important that he can find the right needle without reading a manual first.

So on the inside cover of my "booklet" are pockets, two smaller ones on the front inner cover, one bigger (for 10 needle packs) an the back cover. I already put a packet of jeans needles in. The first side is made of a rather stiff interlock and holds ballpoint and stretch needles. What you would use to sew jersey and knits.

Next sides are woven, so they contain machine needles for woven fabric in different sizes and hand needles in different sizes. The last page is interlock again and contains round tip hand needles.

I hope he will find it as usefull as I do.

Damit sich das Nadelbuch nicht so langweilt und weil noch Stoff da war habe ich dann ein ganzes Set draus gemacht.

Ein Nadelkissen und eine kleine Tasche für eine Basisausstattung. (Eben ein Nähset für Gelegenheitsnäher.)

Since I had still fabric left I made a small notions kit.

I added a pincusion and a small bag for the basic notions. (A sewing kit for the not regular sewer.)

Für die Neugierigen natürlich auch noch ein Blick in das Mäppchen:

Eine Schere von meiner Oma. Die hatte ich nach ihrem Tod schleifen lassen und seither nie benutzt, Ein Maßband aus meiner Sammlung, auch das Handmaß hatte ich doppelt. Eie kleine Stickschere liegt auch noch bei.

Den Combicut Nahttrenner (eine Seite Trenner, die andere Pinzette) und die Schneiderkreide habe ich hingegen neu gekauft.

Damit kann er dann loslegen, wenn er im August die Maschine und das Zubehör bei mir abholt. (Ein Nähbuch habe ich auch noch übrig...) Nur den Fingerhut muß er sich selber kaufen, das geht ohne Größenangaben schlecht...

Of course I also put some basic things in the sewing case: The scissors are from our grandmother. I had them sharpened after her death but never used them. Gauge and tape measure also come from my collection.Small embroidery scissors also come handy.

What I bought for him is the combicut seam ripper (ripper on one side, tweezers on the other) and tailors chalk. A thimble he will have to buy for himself, I don't know his size...

So all basic needs should be fullfilled and he can start after he has the time to fetch his machine from me. (I also found a basic sewing book I do not need myself...)

Saum ohne Saumzugabe

Hem without hem allowance

Na denn erzähle ich mal noch den Rest von dem Kleid...

Frau mhs hat mich mit ihrem Rockabrunder besucht und an dem Kleid eine gleichmäßige Länge verpaßt. Von der Saumzugabe waren dann allerdings grade mal drei oder vier Millimeter übrig.

Beim Zuschnitt des Kleides ging es ja recht knapp zu und so traf mich diese Erkenntnis dann doch nicht ganz unerwartet.

I haven't posted about the rest of my dress, so here it is...

Frau mhs had helped me to determine the length of my dress and marked a straight hemline. That left me with about three or four millimeters hem allowance. This was not a real surprise, because already while cutting I was running short of fabric.

Also mache ich das, was meine Oma einen einbesetzten Saum nannte.

Ich schneide einen etwa 5 cm breiten Streifen von meinem Afrika-Stoff zu.

Normalerweise will man etwas Gewicht am Saum, aber mein Stoff sollte schwer genug sein, daß der leichte Baumwollstoff genügt. Außerdem habe ich von dem braunen Stoff eh keinen mehr. Die nächste Frage ist, ob man den Besatzstreifen schräg oder gerade zuschneidet. Bei einem geraden Saum kann man ihn gut auch gerade zuschneiden, bei einem runden Saum schneidet man schräg, weil sich der Saum dann schön in die Rundung legen kannt. Ich habe mich trotz geraden Saums für einen schrägen Zuschnitt entschieden, weil mein Stoff nicht sehr breit liegt. Trotzdem muß ich einen längeren Streifen zusammenstückeln. Anschließend wird der Schrägstreifen gebügelt und dabei etwas gedehnt. Mein Saum ist ja gerade, so viel Dehnbarkeit brauche ich also nicht, stattdessen ist etwas Stabilität eine gute Idee.

So I'm going to show you a technique my Grandma called a faced hem.

I need a long strip of fabric, about 5cm large, and I'm using my batik fabric for this.

Normally you want a bit of weight on a hem to make sure it hangs well. I think my fabric is heavy enough so the finer cotton will do. Also there is nothing left of the brown fabric... Next question is whether to cut the strip on grain or on bias. If you have a curved seam cutting on bias is important, because that will help the facing to lay flat everywhere. On a straight seam as mine a strip on grain is fine as well. But I decide to cut on the bias, because so I need to piece less. Then I'm ironing the band and I'm stretching it to take out not all but a part of the stretch. I want a bit more stability than stretch.

Dann wird der Streifen rechts auf rechts auf den Saum gelegt und festgenäht. 6-7mm Nahtzugaben müssen reichen, mein Stoff ist ja relativ grob gewebt, wäre sie schmaler, wäre die Gefahr doch sehr groß, da0 die Nahtzugabe ausfranst.

I'm stitching my bias strip right sides together on the hemline. A seam allowance of 6-7mm is fine. My fabric is rather loosely woven so a smaller seam allowance would risk to fray.

Ausbügeln heißt der nächste Schritt. Zuerst von beiden Seiten flach bügeln. Und dann die Nahtzugaben auseinanderbügeln.

Das klingt zuerst unintuitiv, aber dadurch bekomme ich einen scharfe Linie, nämlich die Stiche die zwischen den beiden Stofflagen sind, an denen sich der Stoff dann beinahe wie von selber umklappen läßt.

Next step is pressing. First pressing the seam allowance flat from both sides. And then pressing the seam allowances open.

That my seem to be a bit strange, but this step helps the fabric to turn to the inside along my hemline and creates a clean, sharp crease.

Ja und das war es dann schon.

Die neue Saumzugabe wird auf die linke Stoffseite gebügelt und dann mit der Methode der Wahl festgenäht.

In meinem Fall ein paar Handstiche.

And that's it already.

Just turn the facing to the left side of the dress, press and seam with your method of choice.

In my case a bit of handstitching.

Low motivations

Die Maschine schnurrt wieder und eigentlich sollte mich jetzt nichts mehr abhalten, endlich den im November begonnenen Mantel fertig zu stellen.

Alleine, die Motivation dafür ist gerade gar nicht da.

My machine is working well again and there is nothing to prevent me from finally finishing the coat I started in november. Except that I have really no motivation to do that now.

Also mache ich sinnlose Kleinprojekte, erst Stocken stopfen (na gut, das war nicht sinnlos) und dann ein paar Stoffreste geschnappt und die Marmeladenausbeute für dieses Jahr beschriftet. Einfach so freihand. (Ja, meine Handschrift ist so grauslig, aber wenn ich mit einem Stift vorschreibe wird es auch nicht schöner.)

Immerhin reduziert das die Stoffreste...

So I did useless small projects. I darned socks (okay, that is not completely useless) and then I took some scraps to make "labels" for this years raspberry jam. Just stitched it on with lowered feed dogs. (Yes, my handwriting is that bad. If I mark the fabric first with a pen it doesn't get any nicer.)

At least that reduces my left over fabric stash by a tiny fraction...

... Gott sei Dank!

It's sewing again!

Glücklicherweise hatte mein Nähmaschinendoktor gleich für heute einen Termin für mich.

Alle nötigen Ersatzteile waren da und so konnte ich nach ein paar Stunden eine wieder schnurrende Maschine mit nach Hause nehmen. Ein neuer Greifer verhilft zu schönen Stichen und der verbogene Transporteuer war auch gleich mit dran, daß der verbogen war wußte ich ja schon länger.

Die Maschine ist fast auf die Woche genau elf Jahre und ich nähe wirklich nicht sehr vorsichtig damit, da sind also ein paar neue Teile keine Verschwendung. Für die nächsten zehn Jahre....

Luckily my sewing machine doctor could give me an appointment for today. A

ll spare parts were in stock and so I could take my machine right back after some hours of surgery. Not only the run down parts around the bobbin (whatever that is called in English) were replaced, I also got new feed dogs (I knew already they were a bit bent.)

The machine turns eleven years in some weeks and I do not handle it with to much care. So some new parts are not exagerated. For the next ten years...

Slot Seam

Nach dem Zuschnitt liegt die nächste Herausforderung darin, den Afrikastoff so einzuarbeiten, daß er zwar sichtbar, aber eben auch nicht zu auffällig ist. Denn wie schon erwähnt, es soll ein Kleid fürs Büro werden.

Also wende ich eine durchaus nicht neue Technik an, ich unterlege meine Nähte mit dem Stoff. Wie es geht zeige ich am Beispiel der Ärmel.

After cutting the next challenge is, how to use my african fabric in a way it is visible, but not to much. As I've said, the dress is supposed to be worn to the office.

The technique I'm using to achive that isn't new, it's called "slot seam". And I'm going to show you how to to it on one of the sleeves.

Zunächst hat mein Ärmel eine Teilungsnaht (wer die Auflage auf den Stoff genau angeguckt hat, hat es vielleicht bemerkt). Diese schließe ich mit einem sehr langen Stich mit der Nähmaschine. Danach wird diese Naht ganz normal ausgebügelt und die Nahtzgaben zu beiden Seiten gebügelt. (Da mein Stoff recht lose und grob gewebt ist, habe ich die Kanten außerdem versäubert, das ist aber nicht unbedingt nötig.)

Meinen afrikanischen Batikstoff habe ich in schräge Streifen geschnitten. Etwa 4cm breit. (Meine Nahtzugabe ist 1,5 cm, wenn der Streifen etwa breiter ist als die zusammengenommenen Nahtzugaben ist es einfacher.)

Der Schrägstreifen wird dann auf der linken Stoffseite mittig über die Naht gelegt und entlang der Nahtzugabe festgesteckt.

First this was of course to make a lenghtwise seam in my sleeve. (If you have checked the pics in the last posting about this dress very thoroughly you might have noticed that detail.) This seam I'm closing with the longest stitch my sewing machine has. Then it the seam allowances get pressed open. (I also did zigzag the cut edges of the fabric, because this one frays very easily. But this step is not necessary for all fabrics.)

From my african Batik I've cut strips on the bias, 4cm wide. (My seam allowance is 1,5 cm and having the bias strip wider than both seam allowances makes it easier.)

The bias strip is placed over the seam allowanced and pinned with lenthwise pins.

Danach wird alles gewendet und von der rechten Stoffseite mit Stecknadeln festgesteckt.

Diesmal quer zur Nahtlinie. (Wer nicht so gerne über Stecknadeln näht, der kann stattdessen auch heften.)

Anschließend werden die Stecknadeln auf der Unterseite wieder entfernt.

The sleeve gets turned and I'm again placing pins through all layers.

This time across the seam. (If you do not like sewing over pins you can baste through all layers instead.)

After that I'm removing the pins on the left side of the sleeve.

Jetzt wird von der rechten Seite her gesteppt, in etwa 1,2 cm Abstand von der bereits geschlossenen Naht. (Der Abstand muß natürlich kleiner sein als die Breite der Nahtzugaben, damit diese mit festgesteppt wird.)

Ich habe mich für kontrastierendes Stickgarn (von Mettler) entschieden, aber genauso kann man farblich passendes Garn nehmen. (Ein Klick auf das Bild macht es größer, falls man es nicht gut sieht.)

Damit das Absteppen gleichmäßig wird habe ich meinen Nähfuß an der Mittelnaht entlang laufen lassen und die Nadelposition entsprechend verstellt. Genauso kann man das Kantenlineal verwenden.

Now you topstich from the right side about 1,2 cm away from the seam. (The distance has to be smaller than the width of your seam allowance.)

I've decided to topstich with a contrasting machine embroidery thread (from Mettler), but you can use a matching sewing thread as well. (Clicking on the pic shows a bigger version.)

To get a equal distance from the seam I guided my presser foot along the seam and did change the position of the needle. You also can use a seam guide or a quilting gauge.

Anschließend wird der ursprügliche Saum wieder aufgetrennt. (Der mit den großen Stichen.)

Die Fäden davon werden entfernt, alles schön ausbügeln...

Und schon blitzt ein bißchen unerwartete Farbe hervor.

Last step is removing the original seam. (The one with the long stitches...)

Removing all threads from that seam and pressing well...

The result is an unexpected hint of colour.
